OPEN SPACES

Ellen lives and works on the edge of Topanga Canyon. The city is close. Its energy is constant and busy. Landscapes are the balance, not an escape, but a place to find rest. A place to land, for all of us living in the middle of everything.

Open Spaces define beauty, effortlessly turning heads.

They are some of the last places where nothing is performing to attract attention. The sky doesn't try. The land doesn't explain itself. The forest doesn’t compete with the valley.

Ellen paints landscapes not because they're beautiful but because they aren't trying to become.

She begins with texture on a white canvas. Feeling calmness and centering this way, finding where to start. Texture first, later some color, then depth, then shadow.

And the Open Space comes alive.

Two trees in an open meadow, shadow grass, and a colorful skyintertwined
Big golden clouds over and opened desert beneath a bright blue sky, distant mountains
Transparent Buddha in nature with flowers, golden horizon beneath and open blue sky
Pink and purple glowing sky sunset large lone tree in open meadow
Disappearing open road with big white puffy clouds beneath a bright blue sky
Colorful sunset orange and pink sky with luminous clouds above an open horizon
Peaceful forest with ethereal light filtering through the trees golden haze
