Some paintings call for attention. Others quietly change the feeling of a room.

 

Ellen paints from the belief that when we slow down, even slightly, we begin to see and perceive things differently.

Ellen is interested in creating work that people return to daily, art that becomes part of the character of each space and the experience of living inside it. ​She is drawn to the way mood affects us emotionally.

Inspired by the way light changes a room and how gazing at a landscape softens the nervous system. 

​

Art shifts the feeling of a space without needing to explain itself.

 

​Many of Ellen’s paintings begin with observation, but they become more about presence, memory, and what it feels like to fully inhabit a moment.

​

Painting is connected to the way Ellen moves through daily life. Attention, stillness, beauty, atmosphere, and emotional presence are not separate things.They come together in the essence of being human.

​

​Ellen has been creative her whole life. But when life got busy, she didn't paint for 15 years. Then everything changed. She picked up the brush again and from the first painting, which she immediately framed and put on the wall, she knew something had shifted. And she has been painting ever since.

​

Ellen lives and works in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles…where the landscape finds its way into everything. 

Painting has been Ellen’s full-time practice for over twenty years.
